Hexagonal teapots collection

Hexagonal teapot experimental collection

This first teapot is made with a mix of bmix and speckled buff clay—roughly 4:1. It creates a lovely pale cream with a few elegant speckles. The teapot panels are painted with black satin matte at the bottom and honey flux at the top. I applied roughly four layers each. The edges are glossed with firebrick and arctic blue on top, again roughly four layers. (All Amaco glazes.) This piece functionally does work—it pours—but it doesn’t have a working lid. It can be used as a decorative piece, plant watering can, piggy bank… whatever you can imagine.

These teapot designs are experiments in hand building and glazing. This top teapot developed cracks upon the final firing, due to my imperfect slip and score technique at the time! However, the glazing combination makes it a really attractive decorative piece. The outer panel have black satin matte at the bottom, with iron lustre under oatmeal at the top. The edges are glossed with olive speckle. (All Amaco.) The inside is painted with Mayco lime shower. The clay body is bmix.
