Acrylic selfie explorations
Selfie 1
Ice cream pastels and lots of eyeshadow.
Freehand sketch + acrylics.
Exaggerated shapes and extreme shadows, deliberate.
Low nose and mouth, accidental.
Selfie 2
The light bands and new colours were the thing.
It was less about getting the face exact and more about finding those levels.
I want to make colour and light a topographic contour.
Selfie 3
Starting to look more into shapes and light blocks.
There aren’t enough levels between light and dark.
The blue hair was last minute.
Selfie 4
The colors ended up too flush, but more into this blue grey.
Started to add more texture to the blocks.
Lots of drama.
Selfie 5
I don’t know how the eyes got so wide.
The hair is awful, but green, red, and blue are my colours right now.
The scan makes it look even more textured and veiny.
I’m OK with the Skeletor vibes.
Selfie 6, plus Mum
I kind of hate it and think it’s a step backward.
But I also think there’s something about Mum that I got quite right.
Anyway, I love this photo of us.
Selfie 7
It was awful, but then I fixed it. Mostly. It’s still a little cartoonish.
Selfie 8
I’ve been kind to myself, without intending to: Note how I straightened those teef and made less of a thumb neck. Hah.
Selfie 9
Now we’re cooking with gas. New colour palette.
